Salt-N-Pepa is a multi Grammy winning, all female Hip Hop group from Queens, New York consisting of Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton. Salt-N-Pepa have released five albums, all achieving a minimum of gold to multi platinum. They are the FIRST female Rap act to have gold, platinum and multi platinum albums blazing the trail for acts like Missy Elliot and Nicki Minaj to follow. The continued popularity and demand have kept them busy as they currently perform shows all over the US as well as sold out festivals internationally. During the 2014 holidays, they performed six shows over eight days over various venues in Australia for 100,000 screaming fans.
While nominated for many awards the group have been awarded the following: 1995 Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group: “None of Your Business”, 1994 MTV Video Music Awards, “Whatta Man”, winner for Best Dance Video, Best R&B Video, and Best Choreography in a Video. The Group was also the 2nd Annual VH1 Hip Hop Honors Honoree. In 2007 Salt n Pepa debuted their own series on VH1, in 2008 they performed at the BET Hip Hop Awards and in 2010 they received the I Am Hip Hop Award at the BET Hip Hop Awards. In 2014 the group and their infamous ‘Push It’ song can be seen and heard featured in the highly popular Geico commercial in the US and the KIA Sportage commercial in Australia. Salt-N-Pepa support numerous charities including the “Stems of Hope” Three to Be 2013 Charity Gala at which Salt-N-Pepa headlined helping to raise funds for children with neurological disorders, and more recently the Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the holidays Charity Show 2014 to raise awareness for the LGBT youth and homelessness.
